Longitudinal section through a stem tip of pondweed. The apical meristem of pondweed is very elongated. Numerous very thin leaflets are visible below the apical meristem. Vascular bundles are present in the stem. The plant can maintain an upright position, which facilitates the capture of sunlight, due to the air cavities in the stem. |
