Interview with Maurice Martens on pollen allergy and the pollen allergy app

Hayfever prognosis can be generated on account of knowledge about the flowering period of plants, and the weather forecast, results on pollen countings and the level of allergenicity of the collected pollen. Pollen expectations are useful for people who suffer of hayfever (other words for this condition are pollen allergy and pollinosis), because they can decide to mind going outdoors or they can better protect themselves for contact with pollen or they may take preventively certain medicine in accordance with their physician. In the Netherlands information about current hayfever risks is not yet a standard part of the weather forecast, but data bout hayfever forecast can be consulted via websites (see below) and teletekst and sometimes in the -weekend- newspaper, and more and more often by means of apps.
The table here below provides an overview of sites where current hayfever risks and prognosis can be found, like maps, tables about flowering species, and also video presentations with explanations on hayfever-causing plants. Information on pollen countings in the Netherlands can be found on the sitesof the Elkerliek Hospital, the Leiden UMC and the Natuurkalender. In Belgium; data on pollen in the air are collected and published by the Belgisch Wetenschappelijk Instituut Volksgezondheid through the Belgisch Aerobiologisch Surveillancenet. For those who suffer of hayfever and travel abroad in the same table here below links have been set per country to sites giving local hayfever forecast.
